Piano Lessons and More in Greater Vancouver

At the Fantasia Academy of Music, we provide high-quality and enjoyable music lessons for students of all ages. Piano lessons, singing lessons, guitar lessons, and more are offered across Greater Vancouver. No need to leave your home for music classes – we can travel to you! Online sessions are available no matter where you are located in the world.

Our instruction is always personalized for each student and their goals. You may choose to have your teacher come to your own home, or you may visit the teacher’s studio for lessons. Teachers are located in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, and other areas in the Lower Mainland.

Jennifer Se

Jennifer Se studied music at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln School of Music, and Augustana University on multiple scholarships. Specializing in piano and flute, she has been mentored by renowned professors across the United States and in Asia. As a professional musician, she is active in various performance ensembles including the Millennium Youth Orchestra.

Currently, Jennifer is a full-time, award-winning music teacher. She offers both private and group lessons, and has achieved the 2022 Best Teacher Honour Award (International Fringe Music Festival and Competition) and the Gold Prize Tutor Award (Asia Musician Competition 2019-2023) among many others.

Nick Burns

Nick Burns’ musical journey actually began on the bagpipes! Nick now performs as a solo singer with orchestras across North America and Europe. His passion for teaching is driven by his own experiences as a student, and remembering how profoundly impactful his music instructors have been on his life.

Nick’s teaching is centred on fun, and he is always eager to find creative solutions in order to further engage his students in their learning. Nick has also worked as a conductor, working on both musical theatre works and operettas. Nick received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from McGill University, and is now working toward his Doctorate at the University of Toronto.

Maggie Lu

Maggie graduated with both her Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of British Columbia, where she studied with JUNO and Emmy award-winning musicians. She has won First Place in numerous piano competitions, and has obtained the full ARCT Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Piano Performance.

Maggie teaches students ranging from beginner to advanced levels, and has prepared students for examinations with top marks in the country. In addition to teaching piano, she also gives lessons in music theory and history. As a composer, she is the youngest composer in Canadian history to be featured in the official RCM music curriculum, and is published by the Canadian Conservatory of Music as well.

Connie Lin

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Connie has shown keen interest in piano since she was 6. She studied Music, majoring in piano and earned her Bachelor of Arts in The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Later, she obtained her Master of Arts in Music Theory at University of British Columbia. She also received her ATCL Diploma in Piano at Trinity College London and Grade 8 Singing with Distinction at ABRSM. Back to Hong Kong, Connie worked in fields of art administration, education and community outreach and teaching at Hong Kong Ballet and Hong Kong Treble Choir.

Having taught music for 8 years, her goal is to share her passion and knowledge in music to more children, and encourage for a more well-rounded music education with instrumental skills, theory, history and musicianship.

Alex Cheng

Alex Cheng teaches drums, guitar, bass, and piano. He graduated with a degree in Jazz Studies – Education, as well as a diploma in “Music Production, Mixing, and Recording Engineering”.

Growing up between Hong Kong and Canada, the contribution of culture has shaped his musical direction, and he recognizes the importance of cultural aspects when teaching music. His focus in music education is to help students achieve their goals by providing them with tools they can use for the rest of their musical journey. In addition to drums, guitar, and bass, he also has teaching experiences in Voice, Piano, Clarinet, and trombone. Alex speaks English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Amanda Andrishak

Amanda completed a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Music at the University of British Columbia. Upon graduating from UBC, Amanda was awarded the coveted Catherine-Cooke Topping Memorial Medal for musical excellence and creativity.

Amanda’s previous teaching positions include Associate Instructor of Piano at Indiana University, where she taught beginner to advanced piano in both private lesson and group class settings. She has over 10 years of experience teaching piano, and has taught students of all ages and levels. She is committed to fostering musical growth and success in her students; her students perform well in student recitals, and university-required piano proficiency exams, and RCM exams on piano and music theory. Amanda enjoys teaching a variety of classical, jazz, and popular musical genres, and believes in instilling in them a lifelong love of music.

Sang-eun (Garnet) Lee

Sang-eun (Garnet) Lee obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Korea, where she studied both piano and violin. She has performed in various orchestras and ensembles, including the Volgograd Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia. In addition to performing, she has worked as an instructor in elementary, middle schools, amateur adult orchestras, and youth orchestras.

A multi-instrumentalist, she has taught violin, piano, and the cello to students of all ages and abilities. Her students have prepared well for competitions, recitals, and examinations.

Michelle So

Michelle was born and raised in Hong Kong and has played the piano for almost 20 years. In addition to her piano skills, she also plays the Erhu (二胡) and various other instruments.

Michelle holds a 4-years Advanced Music Studies Certificate from the Hong Kong Music Institute. She has also completed the highest levels in music from the ABRSM and Trinity College London. Her diverse musical background includes participating in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, performing in musicals, and much more. Michelle teaches students ranging from beginner to advanced levels. She loves communicating with children and finds joy in watching them build confidence and develop their skills. Her artistic creativity and passion make her a dynamic and inspiring educator.

Sian Colman-Black Belding

Sian Colman-Black Belding began her classical voice training in her early teens and ultimately was accepted to DIT Music and Drama Conservatory in Dublin, Ireland attaining a BA Honours in Music Performance and Vocal Pedagogy. She has been involved in numerous opera projects and her European performances to date include works in multiple genres.

Her teaching career has included individual, private semi-private sibling and group lessons. She believes in empowering students to have a grounded technique – enabling them to embrace all musical genres – and encouraging them to have a varied interest and passion for music. Her students have consistently achieved distinctions in appropriate exams. Mrs. Sian is passionate about teaching and looks forward to the coming year.

Kristie Woo

Kristie Woo’s lifelong dedication to music and education began at the age of five, and her passion continues to drive her accomplishments. She was awarded First Class Honors with Distinction in Level 10 piano and First Class Honors in her ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Both of these scores surpass the national average in Canada.

To further enhance her music education, she also obtained her Elementary Piano Pedagogy Teaching Certificate. Additionally, she tailored her studies in psychology at the University of British Columbia to deepen her understanding of children. In addition to teaching piano, Kristie enjoys teaching music theory and history. She diligently prepares students for competitions, recitals, and examinations, and creates a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Sung Shin Lee

 Sung Shin Lee is a guitarist who has lived in Korea, China and the United States. Having achieved his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and Master of Music in Improvisation from the University of Michigan, Sung Shin has taught private lessons and worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at the Musicians Institute.

The main goal in Sung’s teaching is not only limited to providing tools for students to learn music and enjoy playing the instrument, but also to introduce different styles of music for students musical discoveries. He is able to teach jazz, rock, pop, and other genres of music on the guitar and ukulele.

Michelle Lai

Since age four, playing the piano has been one of Michelle’s earliest childhood memories. Having studied music under the Royal Conservatory of Music and arts at Capilano University, she is well-versed in the industry.

Michelle has experience teaching both group and private lessons, and strives for her students to find passion within music. She has prepared students for RCM exams and recitals, with pupils from Kindergarten age to beyond. Forming strong bonds and catering to each student’s learning style is a top priority in her teaching, with her cheerful approach to music.

Sara Magal

Sara Magal is a professional singer and acoustic guitar player. Her interest in music started at a young age by learning to play the piano and singing in choirs, and her love for Bossa Nova music led her to study acoustic guitar and create her own musical identity.

Originally from Brazil, in 2014, she graduated from Escola de Musica de Brasilia (Music school from Brasilia, Brazil). In the same year, she also released her first album with 12 original songs and her voice led her to win the award of Best Vocal Interpreter with her song “Cavalo Preto” (Black Horse) at the Brazilian National FM Radio Music Festival. She has been giving guitar and singing lessons for almost 10 years. Since 2016, Sara Magal has been in Vancouver, performing both solo and with musical partners and bands such as Forro do Cana, Brejeira, Ciranda and Amphibiox.

Sahar Nayeri

Commencing her musical education at the age of 3, Sahar has garnered extensive expertise as a solo violin and piano performer.

Since 17, she has been instructing students in both English and Persian, with the primary aim of instilling a profound passion for music in young learners. She firmly believes that cultivating a love for music accelerates skill development, compared to a less impassioned approach. Beyond violin and piano instruction, Sahar also focuses on refining students’ ear training through Solfege. This method integrates vocalization with piano accompaniment to aid in the recognition of discordant notes. Her goal is to inspire students to attain a comprehensive understanding of musical intricacies while nurturing their overall musicality.
